LIGHTWEIGHT AND COMPACT
In order to enable the rider to optimise the performance characteristics of the new high-torque 3-cylinder engine, the MT-09 runs with an all-new compact and lightweight aluminium chassis. The space-saving and weight-reducing features employed on the new engine have given our designers great freedom in terms of the design of the frame.
COMPACT AND LIGHTWEIGHT
The MT-09’s all-new 3-cylinder engine has been developed to embody the essence of Yamaha’s ‘crossplane philosophy’ which is designed to ensure instant throttle response together with strong low to mid-range torque
QUICK SHIFT SYSTEM
This new mechanism is the same as the design featured on the multi award winning YZF-R1 and features a sensor on the shift rod that momentarily cancels drive torque when an upshift is detected, providing more efficient and exciting acceleration through the gears.
SWINGARM-MOUNTED REAR FENDER
To complement its shorter tail, the MT-09 is equipped with an all-new swingarm-mounted rear fender and registration plate holder featuring a single-sided, lightweight forged aluminium stay.
AGGRESSIVELY STYLED TWIN-EYE LED HEADLIGHTS
Influenced by the uncompromising image of the flagship MT-10, the radically styled face of the MT-09 features an aggressive new LED twin-eye headlight design that underlines this bike’s forceful image as well as its compact and lightweight feel.
CONCEALED 3-INTO-1 EXHAUST
The MT-09 is fitted with an integrated single-piece 3-into-1 exhaust system and short muffler featuring three internal expansion chambers. The stubby muffler emits a pleasing sound that highlights the bike’s unique character and its concealed under-slung location contributes towards the centralisation of mass, which in turn helps to ensure light and responsive handling performance.
ASSIST & SLIPPER CLUTCH
By minimising the unsettling effects caused by high levels of back torque and excessive engine braking, this new A and S clutch provides improved control and gentler handling characteristics when downshifting aggressively.
YAMAHA D-MODE
To give the MT-09 rider the bike – and the excitement – he or she needs in different riding situations, this new motorcycle is equipped with the Yamaha D-MODE system. The rider has a choice of three different throttle valve, control mapping settings, STD Mode, A Mode and B Mode
TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM
For reduced rear tyre slippage and higher levels of controllability, the MT-09 is equipped with a Traction Control System featuring two different modes as well as an off switch. Mode 1 gives minimum intervention and mode 2 offers maximum intervention, allowing you to adjust or turn off the TCS to suit different conditions and riding styles.
